BREAKING NEWS; "Cougar involved in Ted Whitton Style pre game antics"

Word is circulating through the Vancouver Press that the often reserved and seemingly passive James Warfe from the Vancouver Australian Football Club - Cougars has been unrelenting on his attack on the ISSC Opposition team going into the Annual Australia Day AFL Match held at UBC January 26th at 1pm. In a statement released by a member of the ISSC (Irish Sports and Social Club) an alleged letter has been circulated to all VAFC and ISSC players written by Warfe. The letter reads as follows;

Fellow Australians,

I have (somehow) gotten myself into a verbal slanging match with these irish patties over the Australia Day Cup.
As a patriot and a defender of all things green and gold I will continue to stoke the fires for the next 8 days, building this match into an epic clash of "i told ya so!!".

I just ask one thing from you all - DONT LET ME DOWN!!!!
If we, for some stupid reason, manage to lose again, on our own day, to our guinness-drinking friends, then i am going to hear about it until we get a chance to exact some revenge on March 16.

So dust off the boots, get down to pre-season on Sunday, and lets teach everyone the pride of Aussie Rules amongst the Cougars!

Australians all let us rejoice...
Warfey

While it does appear a rally call for all Cougars to attend this monumental event and "play" it also could be seen as a last ditch attempt by Warfe to fend off criticism regarding his Guinness drinking efforts at local watering holes. Warfe was recently seen going head to head at a Netball Social function with Wayne (ISSC) and Cathal (ISSC) and later spent considerable time polishing the porcelaine! Both Wayne and Cathal left the establishment convinced they had shown yet another Aussie the Irish drinking Pride. Clearly, we have not seen the last of this on going one upmanship and spectators are certain to be entertained during the Aussie Day AFL game.

VAFC President Tony Cooper was unavailable for comment but Warfe's teammates Lancaster and Miller accepted a telephone interview late yesterday evening. From Miller's executive suite pad he and Lancaster proclaimed that Warfey is "simply pumping up Aussie loyalty and deserves nothing more that his countryman's support" and between downing consecutive VB's concluded "Come on Aussie come on!". Miller adding, "I think its a great thing to see how passionate Warfey is for AFL this season and it will be great to see him at as many training sessions as I attend for 2008".

This type of pre game banter has not been seen in AFL circles since the great days of the legendery Ted Whitten and who knows how it will play out on the turf.
