Eagles draw first blood

Good evening all players and supporters of the Cougars (VAFC), Saturday saw the game opener for the NWPAFL 2007 season and it was indeed a great day for footy. The Cougars began the game with a squad of 29 - including 13 non Australians -a fantastic first game showing.

The game day was held firmly in the grasp of the Eagles and they did unfortunately walk away with a comfortable win.

The Cougars coaching panel would like to extend a huge thanks to all the players who doned the Red and Blue. While we fell short on the final score board, it was evident that the team spirit and individual efforts of all players was a great indication of the potential of the team.

Of special note - For the first time in Cougars history, we have a non-Australian as Captain. Not, only that, we also have a non-Aussie Vice Captain. Huge congratulations go out to the 2007 Skipper - Ted Murray. He will be supported by Vice Captain - big Pat. This is a great tribute to two Candians who have relished playing the great game of AFL and will no doubt continue to be great leaders throughout the year - Well done fella's !!
