Cougars go down in thriller at UBC
It was a close one, but unfortunately the Eagles had the edge over the Cougars once again and narrowly pipped us in a tight tussle out at UBC.
The boys prepare for the big clash
In blustery conditions, neither side could get away from the other and the biggest lead of the game was never more than a goal. The Cougars coaching brain trust of Grills/Sheen did some magnificent coaching moves that saw the Cougars backman completely blanket many of the Eagles stars from Game 1 and kept the game close.
One point of note that was absolutely sensational about the game was that for almost the first time ever, the Cougars started the game with more non-Australians on the field than Aussies...and boy did they step up during the game. The Irish trio of Mike, Carl and Dennis in particular constantly lead drives out of the backline and on the wing to pump the ball deep into the forwardline time and time again.
Grills informs Kenny there "may" be a 6 pack of VB in his bag pre-game
It was certainly a team effort all round though with most of the team taking the game hard to the Eagles up to the very end. Look for Game 3 in Burnaby in 2 weeks time to be a turning point in the season as the Cougars continue to go from strength to strength.
2005&2006 goal-kicking table leaders Vargo and Dickins discuss their lack of goal output in 2007.
Final Score -
Burnaby 4.11.35 to the Cougars 4.7.31
