Australia Day 2008 - Reflection
January 26th has come and gone and it truly was a huge event for 2008.
The AFL Game:
A huge crowd turned out to witness the second annual AFL match between the ISSC and BCfooty held in 0 to sub zero conditions at UBC. The ISSC performed with great pride and made the BCfooty team work hard all day to eventually notch up a narrow victory. Special thanks to the ISSC for their involvement and great match performance and sportsmanship. There were too many great players to mention on both teams! Ronan Deane (ISSC) gets a special mention though as some people are now speculating that his missed goal late in the final term could have been the difference between the ISSC winning and losing (by 3 points)! The day finished in fine historical form with snow falling gently as the final minutes of the game ticked away - history was made in Vancouver 2008 with an AFL game officially played in the SNOW!
Special thanks to Matt Bell and Peter Campion for the excellent umpiring throughout a very very cold day!
Also big thanks to 95Crave for bringing along their cruiser!!
The Party's:
A packed crowd headed to Mahony's Bar and Grill (UBC) to celebrate the after match and continue on with Aussie day festivities. Facebook is littered with photos clearly showing everyone having a great time. f The BBQ was a huge success and most people attacked the Aussie Beers with passion! A big thanks is extended to the Chris Mahony and the lads for the effort to make the celebrations as enjoyable as possible! Later in the evening many players and friends headed to Moose's Down Under (Downtown) to really keep the Aussie Day party ticking! Moose's stayed open well into the evening and the Cougars took full advantage of the great atmosphere - special thanks to Corina and the team at Moose's.
