BC Footy Cup Success

We appreciate that there will be other emails/articles on the web regarding the weekend that has just elapsed however we wanted to make sure that all the Cougars players and Supporters recieved a timely email of

THANKS - Letter from commissioner

This weekend will go down as one of the most successful Australian Football weekends in Vancouver and it could not have occurred without the dedication and efforts of many people. It is always risky to isolate names in the event that someone is missed! However, it is important to make mention of some special efforts!

Firstly, the pre tournament and tournament effort of Peter Campion was simply awesome. It was Peter's dream to host a big event like this in an effort to showcase what the BCfooty group has to offer! It was a huge success and players and spectators alike owe Campo a huge pat on the back. Umpiring, commentating, dealing with schedule changes, playing, field set up are just some of the things Campo managed to juggle throughout the weekend.

Wardy, Peter Fidelli, Dave Miller, Ted Murray helped to umpire, run water, do odd jobs, run the music, run the clock, help take down the posts................and participate as players. Awesome.

Tony Cooper and Jill Cooper - pies, drinks and all manner of food issues where handled by these two amazing individuals. Ice runs, change collection and so many other little things that made peoples footy watching memorable. Coops was a campaigner on the field and showed true sportsmanship throughout. Field set-up and take down was also acheived.

Scott Sheen - caoch extraordinaire! Add to that the pie stand stints, three marvellous goals and loads of other small but vital tasks performed throughout both days.

Rob Edmonds made a huge milestone this weekend playing his 50th game and yet was tireless in his efforts to help set-up the field, sell pies and make sure the VAFC team played to its motivated best.

Babs, Laura Grills, and Lori Campion became the pie selling Queens - and ice runners, etc. Thanks ladies.

All the players who donned the Cougars jumpers were awesome - our team efforts may not have always showed on the scoreboard but the way in which we battled every battle and stood tall in all situations makes everyone proud to be associated with the VAFC.

We also need to thank the Eagles players who helped to umpire, goal umpire, assist with pie selling and set-up, field set up and many other duties like first aid support, water running and simply playing. It was a huge effort. Your on field performances were also fantastic.

Finally, special thanks goes to Seattle AFC, Calgary AFC (Alberta Footy) and Japan AFC for all the help and assistance that was provided through Saturday and Sunday. Naturally - we would like to thank them also for simply making the effort to attend the event and play - its a huge commitment and the Cougars and Eagles are grateful.

The BCFooty Cup simply was a huge success!

It is also important to acknowledge the International participation and special word of thanks is extended to Mike McFarlane for the AFL Canada involvement and North Delta Juniors U17 squads. Mark Block and assistants for the Senior Northwind team - well done on two great games. Jake Anson for the Canadian Womens team. The USFooty junior team and all associated personnel, the USfooty Mens Revolution and all coaches and associates and the USfooty Womens team and all their associated personnel. Special mention to Plugger from USfooty for his umpiring and general support of the event. There were also several other guys that umpired and again helped make the day/s successful for all!

No doubt someone has been missed in these thankyou's - given that so many people contributed to make this a success, but please take this as a general acknowledgement of appreciation.

Stay tuned for comments and articles on the huge event.

But for now take the time to reflect on what were great days of footy!
